About 225 miles southeast of Miami, Harbour Island is just two miles east of the island of Eleuthera, into which there are daily flights from Ft. Lauderdale as well as Miami. Flights can also be booked to Nassau, with a connection to (North) Eleuthera.
This hideaway island is less than five miles long and one-half mile wide.
Harbour Island has become one of the chic-est island retreats for international business magnates and entertainment industry people who prefer to keep a lower profile.
Word of mouth has always been the only way to learn about the Island. The buzz began in the 1940’s when Allen Malcolm, a successful engineer, opened the Island’ first resort, Pink Sands, to a very select group of patrons. Later, the granddaughter of British aristocrat Lord Mountbatten chose the Island as her retreat and redesigned the Island’s now well-regarded small inn, The Landing.
Much of Harbour Island’s appeal has to do with its natural beauty, most particularly its beaches. It full length is edged on one side by Pink Sand Beach, a broad, stunning beach owing its name to the finest crushed coral that makes up its sand, always cool and walk-able even on the hottest day. Well-known as one of the world’s best beaches, Pink Sand Beach is mostly empty of people save for the guests of the Island’s small resorts and the photo shoots of magazines like Sports Illustrated SwimSuit Edition that have occurred there.
The estate overlooks Pink Sand Beach, a walk of less than a minute from its guest accommodations.
Bahamas breezes, views and mild temperatures make it perfect for outside dining. Whether at Bayside, at the Beach Cottage or the Main House, guests seem to prefer to eat most meals in the open air. All meals and beverages are part of the rental.
Full staff of chef, waitstaff, housekeepers, boat and watersports personnel, and the property’s management couple.
Water toys on-site add up to a virtual armada. The flagship is a 37-foot state-of-the-art speedboat, the Midnight Express. Guest access to this amazing fleet of boats makes this property feel like a full resort, not just an extraordinary villa rental.
