It has been in the Earl of Airlie’s family ownership since the 16th century and enjoys a prime position with tumbling rivers below on three sides.
In the large walled garden there is a tennis court for the energetic whilst the main grounds have a grassy area with football goal posts, miles of walks, and trout and salmon fishing.
The main house is complete with a large dining room, library, drawing room and TV room. You will also find a fully equipped kitchen, snooker room, playroom for children, boot room, laundry room and access to the patio and adjoining cottage.
The property comes complete with 2 hours housekeeping, 3 times a week. Additional housekeeping can be arranged, and the house can be fully catered by arrangement. The Castle is also available as an enchanting venue for weddings.
Airlie Castle sleeps up to 18 guests over 9 rooms. The adjoining cottage, which can be accessed from the main house has 2 twin rooms which can sleep up to 4 guests and would be ideal for extra capacity or for staff (included in price).
Airlie Castle has 6 bathrooms throughout the property; 5 in the main house, 2 of which are ensuites. The adjoining cottage has 1 shared bathroom.
There are two indoor schools and two outdoor arenas which offer a range of riding conditions to provide a diverse experience to all those participating. The school caters for those with varying degrees of riding ability, including beginners and children.
Home to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, the setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and the beloved childhood home of the Queen Mother, Glamis Castle has witnessed over 600 years of history. Visits to the castle are by guided tour only and tours leave regularly throughout the day. The restaurant provides a variety of quality meals, sweets and drinks, all served by award winning caterers.
The Heather Isle angling charter boat operates from Arbroath to provide a variety of trips lasting from a few hours to a whole day. Popular cliff angling marks between Arbroath and Montrose include Mariners Grave, Needle’s Eye, Whiting Ness, Steeple Rock, Usan and Boddin. Target species include cod, mackerel, and haddock. Other less predictable species that haunt the coastline include sea bass and salmon. In addition to angling, they offer pot trips where you can try your luck at landing crab & lobster to take home.
