The house has 3 large terraces, 2 with tables under shaded pergolas, one seating 12 and the other a smaller breakfast table. There is a shady mature garden with watered lawns, a swimming pool (14X7m) professionally maintained near the house, and an all-weather tennis court, plus racquets.
Ground Floor – Sitting room with fireplace, iPod dock, sofas, chairs & games, large dining room, seating up to 12, well-equipped kitchen, utility room. There is an additional large sitting room with fireplace, cozy sofas, and satellite TV on the first floor.
The housekeeper and her husband come 6 hours a day (3 hours each) 6 days a week to look after the house and surroundings. They speak Italian only, but are fantastic cooks. Extra hours can be arranged and are payable locally at Eur 14 per hour( extra cooking, extra cleaning). An Italian handyman/gardener/pool man, comes to the house daily to check all is well.
There are 4 bedrooms on the first floor, 1 double ensuite, 1 twin ensuite, (which can be made into a double), and 2 additional twins sharing a bathroom. On the ground floor are stairs down to another twin bedroom and shower bathroom. The separate studio has twin beds on the top floor which is reached by a fixed ships-ladder with a banister. Shower/loo and kitchenette/sitting area downstairs. This is not suitable for anyone who would find a ladder-staircase difficult nor is it suitable for small children.
5 bathrooms in total. There are 3 bathrooms on the first floor, 2 of which are ensuite. Shower room downstairs, and in the studio.
Annabel loves the sweeping views and surrounding countryside at Petreto.
Castiglion Fiorentino is an ancient village 5km away from Petreto. A former Etruscan village, and with a sacred area dating back to the 5th century BCE in the main piazza, this is the perfect destination for history buffs. The Civic Museum of Archaeology and Excavation is well worth a visit. It also has a number of good shops and restaurants.
There are good trains from Castiglion Fiorentino or Arezzo to Rome, Florence (preferable to driving), Bologna, Venice, Milan, Naples and Pisa.
Visit the Famiglia Buccelletti Winery to sample regional wines and olive oil. Located in the Valle di Chio, stroll through the vineyards and immerse yourself in an integral part of Italian culture.
